Karen Douglas has been a steadfast donor to the UNM Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering and a longtime supporter of the School of Engineering and its students.

Douglas received her bachelor’s degree from UNM in 1979 and earned a master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University in 1983. After graduation, she led a successful career in nuclear engineering, with a large part of it spent as a nuclear engineer with the National Nuclear Security Administration. She also served as Nuclear Committee chair for the ASQ Energy and Environment Division.

How did you choose to give back to UNM?
My contributions have been directed toward academic achievement offering scholarships to promote student engagement.

Why did you choose to give back to UNM?
I was fortunate to be provided with adequate financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and a Fellowship program to develop my potential.

What do you hope your gift will accomplish?
I would like those who may not otherwise have been able to graduate to have the opportunities I had while enrolled at UNM School of Engineering.

Why should others consider giving back to UNM?
New Mexico benefits from an educated workforce with both practical applications and research participation available.
