Since completing his Ph.D. in electrical engineering at UNM in 2018, Brian MacKie-Mason completed postdoctoral work at Argonne National Laboratory studying the boundary plasma of tokamak nuclear fusion reactors, then went on to work for Lockheed Martin, where he currently serves as a senior research scientist in computational electromagnetics.

His broad area of research is in the field of high-performance computational science, and he is particularly interested in harnessing the power of parallel computing environments to improve these solution methods, and to produce scalable algorithms to aid in future scientific discovery. MacKie-Mason has presented his research findings at conferences, workshops, and in journals.

How did you choose to give back to UNM?
I am making a regular monthly donation to the student scholarship fund in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department where I graduated from.

Why did you choose to give back to UNM?
I want to give back to the institution that helped me to grow so much professionally and prepared me for the working world.

What do you hope your gift will accomplish?
I hope my gift will help to provide an education to those who can’t afford the tuition or those who aren’t able to secure research/teaching grants.

Why should others consider giving back to UNM?
Giving back creates a sense of community and ensures others had the same opportunities you did.
